Dancehall Sensation Gully Bop Passes Away: A Brief Yet Impactful Journey

Dancehall artiste Gully Bop is dead, according to the entertainer’s pastor, who made the announcement on Tuesday.

Pastor Chris Tate, of El’Shaddai Prophetic Ministries, revealed that the entertainer passed away at the Kingston Public Hospital on Monday.

Gully Bop, whose real name is Robert Lee Malcolm, had been battling a kidney disease for the past few months and was admitted to the hospital for treatment.

Gully Bop shot to fame in 2014 with his hit track, “Body Specialist.” A video of him performing the track on the streets went viral on social media, leading to his rapid ascent from obscurity to stardom in a ‘rags to riches’ narrative that captured Jamaica’s attention. His meteoric rise culminated in him headlining the Sting festival in December 2014 during the zenith of his brief career.

In his final days, Gully Bop was reportedly homeless once more. Back in August, social media philanthropist Donna Gowe, also known as Aunty Donna, appealed to the public to assist the struggling artist, who was facing adversity and severe illness.
