In an exciting new endeavor, Sting and Shaggy are coming together to create the One Fine Day Festival, set to take place in Philadelphia, USA on September 9th.
The announcement was shared with fans on Shaggy’s official Instagram account this past Monday. The reggae fusion superstar and the former frontman of The Police are organizing their very own festival in the stunning city of Philadelphia, where they will perform a medley of their top hits. The festival lineup also includes the talents of Thundercat, Koffee, Tank and the Bangas, Flor de Toloache, Giordana Angi, Kes, and G Love and Special Sauce, all of which will light up the event’s two stages.
The One Fine Day Festival is scheduled at The Mann Centre, nestled within Fairmount Park in Philadelphia. The event is being co-presented by the Cherrytree Music Company and Live Nation, indicating a robust partnership and promising an unforgettable experience.
Sting and Shaggy, who have formed a tight bond and successful collaboration over the past few years, will lead the festival’s main stage. Their teamwork has previously resulted in the joint album 44/876, which snagged the Grammy for Best Reggae Album in 2019. This festival will mark a rare occasion, as it’s set to be the only joint performance by the two artists for the rest of the year.
Sting spoke fondly of the partnership in a press release, stating, “Shaggy and I share an easy and natural creative connection. Our joint album 44/876 and the unique experience of producing Frank Sinatra covers in a reggae style for the Grammy-nominated Com Fly Wid Mi, led us to the idea of curating a day of music and creativity in a city we both adore. It felt like the perfect, albeit unorthodox, next move.”
Shaggy also expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration with Sting. He said, “Sting stirs up an explorative spirit in our music. Our collaborations are a mix of diverse cultures and musical styles. We decided to invite some of our favorite musicians to join us in real time, creating a unique atmosphere at One Fine Day.”
Their celebrated album, 44/876, not only made its mark in the UK, debuting at number nine, but also secured a spot at number 40 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, earning a gold certification in both France and Poland.
